FAQ

Let us answer your questions...

Here are some of the most-often asked questions about FriPura. If you’re unsure about anything, take a look through these, and feel free to get in touch if you still need information.

The FriPura purifier reacts with degradation products in the oil, which themselves speed up degradation. Without FriPura, once oil starts to break down it quickly deteriorates. See also our How It Works page.

It’s made of a cement-like mortar that feels ceramic to touch.

Yes, FriPura has been extensively tested in the lab and real-world situations and been found to be safe for use. You can see the details of the lab report on The Science page.

As a guideline, the life of your oil should at least double using a FriPura purifier.

Typically, you’ll save around a third of your current oil cost.

Note that exact savings will depend on your circumstance: number & capacity of fryers, what you pay for oil, etc.

Just throw it in your general waste. Easy.

The best way to check the degradation of your oil is with a Total Polar Material tester (such as a Testo 270) or Free Fatty Acid litmus papers (such as these from 3M).

If you don’t have these, you should check the look and smell of the oil, and the appearance and quality of food coming out of the fryer.

When your oil is old, your food comes out with uneven browning. With the FriPura purifier, even if the oil looks dark the food will still be a nice even colour.

We don’t supply these items directly. However, you can order an electronic tester from Testo, and test strips are available from 3M.

Please note we are not affiliated with these suppliers. Similar products may be available from other companies.

No, there’s nothing else like this on the market. Magnesol and Frylow are trying to tackle the same problem as FriPura, but their methods are much more time consuming and costly.

Most commerial fryers will support the use of FriPura. You will need room for the metal case (15.7 x 11 x 1.7 cm) to be fully submerged under the oil and basket. It can be positioned horizontally or vertically on the shortest edge.

If you are unsure, please get in touch and we can confirm compatibility with your fryer(s).

FriPura purifiers come with everything needed to use them, and you won’t need to make any adjustments to your fryer to accommodate them.

We do however, strongly recommend using a Testo 270 Oil Tester or 3M Oil Test Strips (or similar) in order to measure the active life of the oil.

The FriPura is simply added with fresh oil, and removed when it is spent. If you don’t already, we highly recommend daily measuring of the oil quality so you know when it has reached the end of it’s usable life.

Without these checks, you may dispose of the oil too early, wasting usable lifespan of the oil and purifier. If you leave it too late, it can affect the quality and taste of the food you cook.

Yes, FriPura can be used with all types of cooking oil, and provides the same benefits for all.

There is no requirement to change your temperatures in order for FriPura to work.

However, you are able to achieve the same great tastes at a lower temperature with FriPura, and doing so will further extend the life of the oil, as well as save on energy costs.

No, the FriPura purifier is designed to match the lifespan of one cycle of oil. A fresh one should be added to new oil, and when the oil is disposed of, the purifier should be disposed of too.

If, for some reason, you prematurely dispose of the oil, you will still need to replace the purifier for the next refill.

Most food cooked with FriPura purified fryers will absorb less oil. This is, in part, how the oil is able to last so much longer.

In general this will reduce the calorie content of your food. The exact reduction will depend on many factors (the food being fried, non-fried elements of the dish, the oil you use, coatings & seasonings, etc).

If you suspect the calorie reduction may be significant on standard menu items, you may wish to re-test and update your menu in order to improve customer perception.

Yes. The FriPura purifier is certified as non-toxic, and does not introduce any gluten or allergen content into the oil or food.

We recommend always retaining enough purifiers for 2 oil changes. This way you have plenty of contingency time to re-order and receive new stock without risk.

Every franchise agreement is different, so you will need to consult your paperwork and/or contact head office to check.

Some franchises may have specific rules to ensure consistency across sites, or they may already have an arrangement with an oil management supplier.

No! You simply order enough units to ensure sufficient continuous coverage of your fryers. If you decide you no longer wish to use FriPura, simply stop re-ordering further units.
